Eike Hosenfeld & Moritz Denis BIOGRAPHY:
Eike Hosenfeld was born in Offenbach, Germany in 1974. Although having composed music at a very early age, he is largely self-taught and had his first official piano lesson at age 17. Percussion, accordion and guitar were among the instruments he managed to play selfhandedly. Hosenfeld was also actively involved as a drummer in various rock bands throughout his adolescent years. Between 1991 and 1996, he initiated a string of classical piano studies which included composition, harmony and arranging. In 1996, he was admitted to the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Babelsberg, where he studied composition with professor Bernd Wefelmeyer. He graduated in 2001 with a degree of Dipl. Sound Engineer. Hosenfeld has been living and working in Berlin for the last 5 years, within a network of promising, young filmmakers. In 1997 he made 3rd place in a prestigious competition of cartoon film composers, arranged by Brandenburgischer Verein für Neue Musik (The Society for New Music of Brandenburg). In 1999, he was awarded a scholarship for "young talented artists" by his hometown Dreieich (near Frankfurt). Moritz Denis (born 1977) specializes in guitar-oriented music and electronic music, and began his guitar lessons in 1988 (classical guitar and jazz). In 1998, he initiated a two-year education in classical trumpet. He is self-taught in electronic keyboard instruments, sampling and MIDI. He has performed as guitarist in various ensembles: The jazz quartet JMS Frankfurt under the direction of Stefan Schmolck, as bandleader, singer and guitarist in "The All African Orchestra" and as guitarist in the jazz ensemble "Honig Players". From 1999-2000, he was a trumpet player in the American band "Full Flavour". Due to their young age, the composer duo connects easily with current musical trends.Their repertoire is not, however, limited to popular music: In their work, they merge a classical education with the young music of the Berlin scene. The extent of their potential can be heard on their two demo-CDs. Recordings with symphonic orchestra is mostly done with the German Filmorchestra Babelsberg in their studio. In their own studio, they play instruments like guitar, bass, banjo, trumpet, piano, accordion, flute, drums and percussion themselves. Additionally, they do a lot of their own singing when they do film songs. For recordings of instruments and voices which they can’t perform themselves, they are able to use a well-working network of musicians in their surroundings.
